I ordered the red version of this dress and was a bit nervous after reading the reviews. I was afraid it would be too tight, especially around the ribs…wrong! I definitely think the size chart is not right. I plan on exchanging the dress for a xsmall, rather than trying to get it altered. It’s really nice though! I can’t wait to get the new one.You’ll find it hard to believe, but even I found this dress to fit me okay. My wife purchased this dress a while back and loved it, and when we were invited to a costume party SHE decided we were going to go as each other (fun, huh?). Well it turns out this is the dress she had me wear and after a little bit of embarrassment to start the evening I really did start feeling comfortable in it. I also got many compliments as to how well it seemed to fit me, as though it were made for me. My wife looks gorgeous when she wears it, me a little less so but all in all I would recommend this to all women. And yes, she had me write the review.The measurements used to describe the sizes were extremely accurate and I highly recommend measuring yourself to make sure it’s a good fit. It’s easy enough to pin the dress up if you get a size that’s a bit too big but there’s no give in the fabric so for your owns sake, don’t get one that’s too small.This is really a beautiful dress. After reading the other reviews, I decided to order a size larger, but it was too big. Instead of sending it back, I’m just going to have it taken in a bit. Someone else mentioned that it was not for women with larger chests, but I’m a 34DD and it fits in that area just fine. That may be because it was a little too big all over, but I think if I’d ordered it a size smaller (the size I normally wear), it still would have fit well.
Also, it isn’t any shinier than it looks in the picture. Notice how it says “Satin,” so of course it has a bit of sheen to it. Pacificplex has another dress like this that is cotton. I don’t own that dress so I don’t know how similar they really are, but they look the same, so if you’re looking for something more casual then I’d go with that one instead.
The shipping was great! Very fast, and not too expensive. Pacificplex has tons of beautiful dresses, and I’ll definitely be ordering from them again.As others have said, it’s even shinier in person than it is in the picture. It’s definitely cute, but I have a couple of major beefs with it.
Issue 1: it doesn’t drape or flow, nor does the fabric hold a pleat well. This results in it looking pretty odd around the bust if it doesn’t fit exactly, and means that the front drop-waist seam doesn’t flatten down easily.
Issue 2: the front drop waist seam just looks weird. Whereas most 50s dresses I’ve seen have a straight or v-shaped body-to-skirt seam at the natural waist, this has a curved seam where people wear their pants. On me, at least, unless I’m kind of compulsive about ironing this seam flat, it goes all puffy and makes me look like I’m sporting an apron of belly fat.
With a little ironing the dress looks nice, and it works well with a cardigan on top. However, it’s not nearly as awesome as I had hoped it would beThis is a cute dress, but definitely for girls with smaller busts. I ordered a size larger than I normally wear, as many reviewers suggested, but it was too tight in the bust. I exchanged for the next size up, which was WAY too big, so I’m back to the original dress with the aid of a minimizer bra. It is a great dress at a great price, just make sure you check the measurements. If you love the styles of the 40s and 50s and pin-up couture, this dress is for you.This is a fabulous dress. I do agree with a previous reveiwer. Buy it a size larger than you would normally. It is a little tight in the ribs just below the bust.
