Cuisinart GR-55 Griddler Combo, Stainless Steel Reviews
I first bought a Cuisinart GR-4 Gridder .But the instructions were absoulutly horrible(and I am a lawyer and know the art of understanding the written word). Also thte thing was bulky and awkward with the hinged top. So I sent it back and bought the GR-55 Gridder combo. Glad I did and wonder why I did not own one of these much sooner. Instructions are very easy to understand, everything is intuitive in the operation, and it is very compact given the size of the cooking area. Grill plates are reversable so you can grill or griddle or any combination of the two. Heat is excellent and although I use it on top of our glass top stove, with the vent on low-I do not think I really need the vent. It is as close to smokless as I could hope for. Clean up is effortless . I have done skinless chicken, tenderloin steaks grilled cheese sandwiches, vegtables , shrimp and scallops and everything has turned out perfect.
I would highly recommend this model Cuisinart indoor grill and in fact am thinking of getting one for my son.
Only thing I would caution about is that heat up takes a few minuets longer than I am used to on my outdoor grill and be sure to give it plenty of time to cool down before you try to remove the grill plates for cleaning.
I purchased this grill for its great value and versatility – it combines a grilling surface with that of a griddle, while both sides can be used together or interchangeably. The only problem I encountered was that the left side knob wasn’t installed correctly, i.e. where it pointed to “off” was actually the “on” position. i returned it for a replacement and the new one grills great! I’ve done chicken breasts BBQ style and they turn out great! fish and pork kabobs are also easy to cook as is any kind of sausage, bacon and vegetables. I even used it to heat up ready made tandoori bread. I am very pleased with this product overall and I am greatly impressed how light it is (esp with the plates removed) – I store it up high above my kitchen cabinets and lifting it up high is easy! the non-stick surface is absolutely wonderful and very easy to clean. i highly recommend this grill!
If you are looking for a grill/griddle, this one is the best I’ve found! The Cuisinart GR-55. It is great because you can grill and griddle at the same time since it is split instead of solid, leaving two different cooking options.
The kids are grown and gone, so this is great for me to cook my steak on one side and saute a few veggies on the other side. Also good for bacon and eggs in the morning.
You must be careful not to scratch the surface, but rinsing after it cools down is usually all you need to do. Having two individual heating areas means you only have to turn on the side you are using, or both at different temps if you need to.
Love this product–had no problems–what a nice surprise to find something that works so great and efficiently.
I’ve used electric table top grills for over 40 years and found them to be either wimpy, poorly constructed, hard to clean or all three. This item is near perfect with respect to the problems I have experienced in the past.
I have grilled steaks, chops, hamburgers, fish, seafood and fowl and have used the flat plates for veggies and pancakes with great results. Cleanup is an absolute cinch since the grill plates are non-stick and can be put in the dish.washer without damage. It is solidly built and should outlast grills with a plastic frame by many years.
Always pre-heat the grill before cooking. It may take 15 to 20 minutes to attain the proper temperature for grilling and do remove chilled items from the refrigerator in advance of cooking. Don’t expect the searing heat of an outdoor barbecue. With a little experimentation and the right marinade you will be able to turn out a steak which will taste as good or even better than one cooked in the backyard…and with less
pollution from charcoal and lighter fluid.
