I talked my wife into buying me one of these tanks for Christmas several years ago. I’ve had it running virtually non-stop, except for yearly water changes and cleanings, and it has performed really well. I’m really glad I got it.
Just recently I noticed a reduction in the amount of air bubbles that are fed through a long tube on the bottom of the tank. I cleaned out the tiny holes in the tube, which helped, but didn’t completely resolve the problem. I then decided to take the top of the tank apart and have a look at the pump. After I unscrewed it from its mounting position it was evident that the underside of the pump was cracked. I’m assuming that air is leaking through these cracks. Not good. I’m not having much luck finding a replacement pump either.
Also, I remember these tanks retailing for $29 in department stores when my wife purchased mine. In my opinion that’s a fair price for this item. I would not pay $59 for it.
I purchased my first Fake Fish Tank five years ago and it has been running ever since. I purchased it for my work to add color to the office. Huge success. Some people actually thought it was real. I added gravel and a cute sign or two. My grandson now has that one in his room and I bought a new one for my office, which was put in my computer room in 2005 so I bought another one for my office. Everyone wants to know where I bought it. Brands on Sale lost one star because they never returned my e-mails concerning replacement bulbs for the tank. Not nice. I finally found them at a commercial lighting company. Speciality item.
I love this, my family loves it, I bought one for my daughter and her family, my grandchildren love it. This simple to set up, no cleaning or maintaining necessary. It is relaxing to watch or not, it helps make a peaceful environment. While you don’t have to worry about feeding, cleaning, or how the fish are getting along together (I’ve had real fish with problems in the past), you have a care-free pet, they don’t die, you can go on vacation, if you are alone: you are not alone. A tube strip on the bottom allows apx 4 or 5 sets of air bubbles and the fish move about realistically. Among others, there is a seahorse, octopus type fish I love to watch. I haven’t checked to see if a bubble treasure chest would work, it might not, since you have 1 tube that connects the bubble strip.
