I ordered this in black. However, I don’t think it’s dyed very well and it looks like a charcoal grey in person. The leather isn’t the best quality, but acceptable for the price. The front fits great, but the back has very little shaping and is not nearly as flattering as it could be. It has two very short kick pleats that look, well, stupid. I have a lot of sewing experience so I am going to take it apart at the back seams, refit it and extend the kick pleats. I also removed the tacked on detail at the cuffs. You can’t tell by the photo but it’s just a strip of leather held in place by the button stitching. Very lame, but easy to remove.
I gave this four stars because I think it’s a great start to the jacket I want, the price wasn’t bad (on clearance) and I think I will be very happy with it once I get something to darken the leather and make some alterations to the back.
I’d recommend ordering this a size larger than normal if you want to wear it over a sweater.
I received this coat as a gift last year, and I’ve been extremely happy with it. The appearance is unique and dramatic, and I certainly get a lot of compliments when I wear it out. The leather looks worn and a little rough, but not in an undignified or over the top manner. The not-really-pockets in the front are a little frustrating from time to time, but that’s about my largest complaint appearance wise. I greatly enjoy wearing this coat out and about, and it goes well to casual as well as more formal events.
The quality, however, is sometimes a little discouraging. It’s a flimsy piece regarding the hooks that go down the front. The metal hooks themselves are tiny and poorly attached, easily pulled loose. They also function very poorly in actually keeping the coat closed. I recommend being prepared to mostly wear this one open if you buy it. Also, my sister owns the same coat and has had the strap up the side of the cuff rip free at the top so that it dangles rather gracelessly. All of this has been caused by very normal wear and tear and in the expanse of only one year. It’s a lovely coat, but buyers must treat it rather gently if they want it to last very long!
I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for this. It was a decent value for the sale price. I ordered the black one and was a bit disappointed by the buttons. First of all they are different frome the brown jacket. They are a dark pewter color and dome shaped instead of flat and goldtoned. I would have noticed this if they had a picture of the black jacket, when you click on the black one it just shows another picture of the brown coat. Also the buttons were sewed on very poorly. I’ve only had the coat a couple weeks and I’ve lost two buttons already. I’m just going to have to re-stich them all I guess. Also the pockets are fake. And so are the front flaps, they’re fake and sewn flat with the rest of the jacket. The hook and eye closure is also going to need re-stiched as a few are loose already. The fit is not as form fitting as I had hoped, and is not so flattering from the back. With a bit of TLC, this could be a good jacket, but I feel bad for anyone who paid full price for it!
